Breaking the internet, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce shared their engagement with the world on Aug. 25 in an Instagram post. With over 35 million likes, this news has sparked a span of opinions.
Sophomore Addi Desbien, parallel to many other students, said she was excited about the announcement. She said she had to open Instagram to check out the post as soon as she heard the news.
“I thought everyone would just be excited because everyone was reposting it. It kind of broke the internet,” Desbien said. “ I think it’s super exciting, and they’re very cute.”
Desbien said she was thrilled to hear the news; however, not everyone shared her same thoughts. Freshman Lydia Beat said she was more shocked by the reactions to the engagement than the announcement itself.
“It’s okay that they’re excited, but it’s just an engagement. Some people are going crazy,” Beat said. “I didn’t think people would freak out that much, but they did, and some people were crying about it. That was a lot.”
Swift and Kelce received overwhelmingly positive feedback on the aesthetics of their photos. Desbien, as well as others online, undoubtedly liked the images that the couple posted and said they were very pretty.
“I think [the engagement] was super pretty. I like the setting, and her ring is obviously huge,” Desbien said.
Desbien said Swift’s engagement ring was impressive and very large in size. The ring in question is a vintage-inspired cut co-designed by Kelce and jeweler Kindred Lubeck. However, optimism isn’t just coming from Swift’s fans; Cooper Stoeztner, a Kelce supporter, said that he was also happy to hear the news.
Nevertheless, Stoetzner said he had some concerns that the public may have in connection with the engagement and both stars’ performance.
“A lot of people were saying that Travis is going to get distracted, or Taylor is going to put out worse music. I don’t think that’s gonna happen at all,” Stoetzner said.
