Sitting silently in the library, sophomore Reagan Sullivan reads

Reagan Sullivan, Reporter

January 29, 2016

When I first saw the movie trailer for “The 5th Wave,” I thought it looked like an interesting plot and set of characters. Also, the amount of action in the trailer made my heart start to pound. The main character’s voice calmly explains the situation even though it looks like an epidemic. Intr...

Editor reviews Lawrence’s newest Mexican restaurant

The sign at Port Fonda's.

Elizabeth Patton, Social Media Editor

January 28, 2016

Much to my surprise, Port Fonda is not Spanish for ‘hipster.’ Located on the corner of 9th and New Hampshire, Port Fonda is Lawrence’s newest Mexican restaurant. I walked in at 1:45 on a Saturday afternoon and was immediately seated. The restaurant decor was chic and clean. A stainless steel ...

Ray Goren is an up and coming artist that gave the Free Press his album to review.

Madi Engnehl-Thomas, Reporter

December 16, 2015

When I was first handed the album “Songs for You” by Ray Goren, I had no idea what to think. The three yellow, red and blue dots on the cover reminded me of Rock Band. Due to not owning a CD player anymore, I looked up each song on Youtube. The first song I listened to was “Those Days” and it had a very...

Copy Editor reviews interactive Lawrence Arts Center play

Lauren Brittain, Copy Editor

December 14, 2015

A dead bride leads me down a pitch black hallway, covered in cobwebs and smoke. Her face is a shock of white and she sings like a lost lover as we pass other creatures of the night. Wolves howl, black cats hiss behind corners. Finally, we enter the black box, the stage of the The Boy Who Left Home to...

Reporter visits remodeled breakfast spot

Pumpkin filling, cinnamon whipped cream, caramel, toasted marshmallow and roasted herbs are just a few ingredients in the pumpkin pie waffles at the Waffle Iron. December 2, 2015

Waffle Iron has officially opened back up after its recent remodel. My family and I decided to take a trip downtown to try it out. Prior to this adventure, the idea I had of the restaurant was based off the beautiful pictures of the waffles I had seen online. Even though I used GPS on my phone,...

September 30, 2015

As I walked up to 721 Massachusetts St. on a Sunday afternoon, I groaned a little bit. Not because I wasn’t excited about the food; I felt the opposite. However, college students and families were rushing to the door, and I knew I would have to fight for a spot in line. However, the wait for a table...

50 Shades of Grey movie poster

Lauren Brittain, Reporter

March 5, 2015

Beyonce’s remixed “Crazy in Love” plays in the background of the “50 Shades of Grey” trailer, infused with the same tension as a rubber band. I wish the actual “50 Shades of Grey” movie had snapped me in the same way the soundtrack had, but the flaws in the novel gave way to muted,...
