Ashanti Riccardo is a senior and a Photographer for Free State Journalism. She does track which she has been doing since her sophomore year. She is a manager for the football team and is a LINK Crew leader. Ashanti enjoys spending time with the people she loves and traveling.

On top of extracurriculars, work and activities, students are feeling overwhelmed by their academic demands. Junior Rachel Bruffett sometimes feels overworked when having to do loads of homework and study for upcoming tests. “I feel like during the week its just really fast paced and I only get to recover over the weekend, then do it all over again,” Bruffett said.

Junior Nomso Enyinnaya reads through a per-test packet for the ACT exam. Enyinnaya had taken a class during her first and now second semester that helped her to study and be prepared for the ACT. “The ACT is practically a reflection on how youre doing in school, it can really help the teachers with placing you in classes with people on the same level as you so you dont feel out of place.” Enyinnaya said.

Junior Madysen Stanford had taken the ACT exam on February 28th. Stanford took the ACT because she wanted to increase her chances of going to a University that has a good program for what she wants to major in. “I think students should take the ACT or the SAT because it makes you visible to more colleges, and increases your chance to get in.

Freshman Corinne Kingsley said Xello can be beneficial, but also feels more like an assignment that she has to do than something that would really help her in school. “It’s a great way to find a career fit to you and figure out how you learn best; Students would be more likely to focus on the lessons if they weren’t as long though,” Kingsley said.

Senior Julia Ruddy flips her hair enthusiastically while acting in a scene. Ruddy preformed as Evil Tina in the 2021-2022 school year spring production of She Kills Monsters. Being a villain takes more effort because you have to empathize with them as a character and truly believe you are justified being an awful person, Ruddy said.
