BREAKING NEWS: Two Shootings in 24 Hours

Two isolated shooting events resulting in two deaths took place on Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday March 6 in Lawrence, Kansas.

18-year-old Davin Gregory Kerr was shot on March 5 around 10:40 p.m. on the 2900 block of Crestline Drive. Kerr was taken to a Kansas City hospital but did not survive his critical injuries. The Lawrence Police Department is currently investigating it as a homicide.

The LPD is in search of the alleged 21-year-old suspect, Dawson Edward Paine, who fled the scene before officials arrived. According to an LPD press conference, Paine and Kerr were believed to know each other.

While on the lookout for the suspect, LPD also responded to a shooting the following evening.

At 5:10 p.m. on March 6, one victim was shot across the street from the Lawrence Public Library. The library closed its doors to the public following the shooting, while the LPD closed off the crime scene to continue its investigation. A suspect was taken into police custody Wednesday night at 10:15 p.m.

Police stated there were several witnesses to the very public homicide. One witness claimed to have seen the suspect ride up on a bike and shoot the victim, another claimed to see an argument take place before the shooting.
